O hidrog\u00eanio \u00e9 o elemento mais abundante no Universo, mas o hidrog\u00eanio gasoso surge na natureza em quantidades comparativamente pequenas. A atmosfera cont\u00e9m cerca de uma parte de hidrog\u00eanio para 15000 a 20000 de ar (em n\u00famero de mol\u00e9culas), embora a propor\u00e7\u00e3o deste g\u00e1s aumente com a altitude. Os gases emitidos por vulc\u00f5es, minas de carv\u00e3o e po\u00e7os de petr\u00f3leo muitas vezes cont\u00eam hidrog\u00eanio.
